The Miz

April 28th, 2009

Who’d have thought that a mere phrase from a debut appearance on WWE’s Raw would floor the internet with requests?!  The Miz ased one thing of anyone watching WWE last night and that was “Google me!”  And did they?  Oh yes!  Google registered “The Miz” as one of its most searched items after the show so I’m guessing the entire American population now has a fairly good idea of who The Miz is, and, what he does.  So, for those of you who can’t be bothered to google him but still want to appear to be in “the know” here are a few things to inject into conversations at relevant points:

  • Michael Mizanin is his real name (I suppose he thought “The Miz” was much cooler for a Wrestler name).
  • He’s trained hard and played hard to get where he is having wrestled in Deep South Wrestling and Ultimate Pro.
  • He’s a sucker for the limelight having also appeared in television shows like The Real World, Ghost Hunters, The Fear Factor and Identity.

Need any more?  Google him.

ACL Lineup

April 28th, 2009

For those of you not in the know, Austin City Limits is a music festival held in (unsuprisingly) Austin Texas.  It’s held over a 3 day period and it’s super eclectic in its range of music so the appeal is wide ranging.  This year, Austin City Limits sees its eighth festival and I have to say, this one is looking absolutely stellar; definately the strongest we’ve seen in a while.  With headliners such as Pearl Jam, Kings of Leon, Beastie Boys and the Dave Matthews Band you know you’ll be getting your moneys worth - and then you’ve got the additional bonuses in bands like Sonic Youth, Ben Harper and Lily Allen.

I suppose picking the big names is often just down to luck of the draw for the promoters as to who is touring, whose locked up in the recording studio or who is just taking a well earned break from the festival circuit.  Strangely, the promoters of this years festival, C3, decided that they would do nothing to quash any lineup rumors and leaks which seemed to prove a wise move for them - tickets sold faster than they ever have which is kind of strange for being in the middle of a recession don’t you think?!  With a lineup like this, if you’re thinking about going it’s probably best to buy your ticket now.

Snake of Eden in Lady GaGas new video!

April 27th, 2009

Hmmmm, so I’m left thinking that Snake of Eden have a really smart pr person behind them and are going to shoot to stardom fairly quickly!  Havn’t heard of them yet?  Where have you been?!  Izzy, Rock and Kelli Landeberg are the platinum (bleach) blond rock triplets from Sweden looking to storm America.  As first seen on Daisy of Love, you remember, they got booted in the first episode as Daisy de la Hoya’s deemed them unworthy of her love and affection.  Perhaps rather cynically I viewed it as a great bit of attention seeking pr…

So what’s the next move for Snake of Eden?  Well it seems like they’ve drafted their next publicity hit through featuring in Lady GaGas next music video due to be released on the 1st of May - Paparazzi!  Forever looking to cause a commotion, the attention seeking, fun loving girls are filmed kissing Lady GaGa - if this doesn’t bring them the fame they seek then the free press about Lady GaGas boyfriend’s jealousy probably will do!

Don Cheadle To Star In Iron Man 2

April 25th, 2009

Iron Man 2 - It’s finally coming!!! I absolutely loved the first Iron Man movie – well, who wouldn’t with the mighty Robert Downey Jnr. playing Tony Stark! I’m a closet sci-fi and fantasy fan at the best of times but the first film ticked all boxes for me; my heart was racing and the effects were awesome, elements of comedy balanced with just the right amount (or lack of!) seriousness for an action movie.

So now that news is being leaked on Iron Man 2 some might say I’m just a little excited! The cast is looking all star studded but with actors Don Cheadle, Scarlett Johansson, Sam Rockwell and Mickey Rourke looking set to give director Jon Favreau a run for his money. I suppose the main controversy lies in that Marvel have replaced Terrence Howard with Don Cheadle with the rumours pointing to a pay dispute; it seems there can’t be a lack of cash in the pot with the all star cast I just listed?! This might cause some dilemma for fans of the last movie but I have full faith in Don Cheadle who has starred in many roles and won more awards than I have had hot dinners for his acting prowess so I’m sure he’ll step up to the table on this one too. It looks like he’ll also be starring in the Avengers movie due out in 2010 as well. Aren’t they spoiling us?!

Jay Leno Ill In Hospital

April 25th, 2009

So the current news is that 59 year old Jay Leno has checked himself into hospital from an unknown illness; this has resulted in the NBC cancelling the Tonight Show on Thursday and Friday. So whilst he’s in hospital throwing his gags at doctors and nurses we will have to suffer reruns from March and Prince singing (as if once wasn’t enough!) and Jay interviewing the most lovely Emma Roberts and Paul Giamatti.
The real tragedy in all of this is that we will end up missing Ryan Reynolds who was set to be interviewed on Thursday. I’m guessing the main focus of this interview would have revolved around the new film Wolverine which he stars in alongside the mean and moody Hugh Jackman. This is probably the first vaguely serious film Ryan has made so I’m hoping that he’ll still inject some comedy moments into it! Ryan is a cracker who never fails to make me laugh so I’ll feel quite hard done by on Thursday when I won’t get to watch him be funnier than Jay Leno! ;-)
